FIGHTING FOR: Radio airplay for Indies

AMAZING FEATS

Supersonic host of Music Business Radio - a syndicated, weekly, one-hour  specialty program spotlighting the inside workings of the music business.

Master of the Indie Musician blog - How to Sell More Records, Get More People to Your Shows, and Make More Money in the Music Business...

SUPER POWERS

Master of the Airwaves super power is his dynamic charismatic voice.
When he speaks musicians are mesmerized into believing that they are in control of their own music careers. He can also fly and spot musical talent from miles away. He got his powers at 4:00am in the WRLT studios while recording a MBR segment, coffee spilled on the sound board and knocked him out; when he awoke he had these strange new powers.

SECRET WEAPON

His magical sound board has a "believe knob" that when cranked to full volume gives musicians the courage to go for their music dreams! Unfortunately, he sometimes has to use the "reality knob" for music that is not quite ready for the airwaves.

VULNERABILITY

His supersonic radar can get overwhelming when it tries to tune into too many marketing ideas at once. When this happens he has no choice but to listen to live music and drink a few mind eraser margaritas.

INTERVIEW

Q: If you could give Indies one super power, what would it be?
A: It's very beneficial for musicians and any other business person to be able to detach from what they're involved with. It's important to know that not everybody will care just because you're involved with something. And if they don't care, don't let that get you down. Not everything you do will be a match for everybody. You're looking for just a few people to REALLY like it; not be something to every person in the world. Even the top albums in the world, albums like Thriller by Michael Jackson, only sold to a small percentage of people.

Q: What do you believe are the real evil forces stopping Indies from living their music dreams?
A:  I've worked with thousands of musicians all over the world and the problems they face are almost always self-imposed. People like to blame things like lack of money, or lack of connections, or lack of whatever, for their problems. Instead of looking at LACK, look at what you do have. Everybody has some money and some connections, so use what you've got.

Q: Give us your best advice or inspiration?
A: You're not the only one trying to make it. And there is plenty of really great info out there which will help you succeed. Get together with people who are in your same situation and work TOGETHER to help each other. Build your own network rather than worrying about trying to break into one that already exists.
